The Empty Tomb

If there was one moment in time
Where I could wish to be,
I know the very hour and place
And what I'd like to see.

I'd love to sit inside the tomb
Where Jesus' body lay,
Not at the time they laid Him there
But just on that third day.

And right before the very hour
Salvation was complete,
I'd love to sit in silence
At my Savior's wrapped-up feet.

For I cannot imagine
The silence in that tomb,
The cold, dark, damp and musty air
That mingled with the gloom.

Yet can you just envision
When that great moment came,
When God the Father finally said,
"My Son, arise again!"

What glory must have filled the place!
What joy there must have been
When Jesus peeled the grave clothes off
Along with all our sin!

How bright and beautiful the light
From Jesus must have shone,
Lighting every crevice,
Piercing through the stone!

The angel of the Lord then came
Sent from God that day,
With heavenly, joyous orders given
To roll the stone away.

The trembling earth, the growing light--
This moment held man's fate!
As Jesus stepped out of the tomb,
What joy filled Heaven's gate!

With death defeated, vict'ry won,
My Lord ascends His throne!
He bore the cross to conquer sin,
And rose to claim His own.

Although I know I cannot go
Back in time to see,
I know that when He rose again
He did it all for me!
