Arms of Love
Arms of Love

A Cuddling Child

Have you wondered why sometimes God described His people as "stiff-necked" (Exodus 32:9, Exodus 33:3, Exodus 33:5) when they hurt Him? A grandmother was recalling her first pregnancy memories about her expectation of the darling first child she would cuddle. She wrote, "Infants don't ordinarily have neck control" the thing that makes them easy to cuddle. "But [her baby] had neck control, even as a new born. I would try to hold her close, and she would always push away, eager to look around."

God has created us to be His children that He delights in cuddling with His mercies, blessings and love. It brings joy to His heart to have us as soft babies that lean by faith (Hebrews 11:6) - and only faith - on His shoulders. But our Self (pride, self-sufficiency, independence) may sometimes push us away in disobedience from His tender bosom. Sometimes, trials get us curious to push away and try to map our own way and envision our future circumstances far from God's guidance and perception. And no matter what we do or think, the truth is we can do or bear nothing apart from Jesus (John 15:4-6).

If you are about to make a huge decision, or you face illness trial, or you are not quite content with the way your life is going, get back to the Father's bosom and lean your neck on His tender shoulder. He has promised to guide, lead and comfort you and He is more than capable to fulfill His promise.

Dear Father, thank you for being my Loving Father whose tender shoulder never fails to hold me. Help me become the 'soft-necked' child You please to cuddle with Your love and mercies. Teach me to see the joyful and the tough things in my life the way You see them and accept Your will thankfully. I praise Your Holy Name. Amen
