Heartwings says, "As
praise is the sunshine that helps our hopes, plans and wishes
grow so giving thanks is the rain that nurtures their roots and
makes them stronger."
I have two wonderful tools
that I have used for many years to help my life grow and change
for the better. The first was given to me by a woman wise enough
to know what I needed and kind enough to give it to me just when
I needed it. Her advice, which I followed since was simply to be
thankful for whatever in my life I was given, good, bad or
indifferent.
At first I
argued with her. Why should I be grateful for things that made
me uncomfortable or unhappy? "Because you never know how they
will turn out in the long run. Furthermore, they could result in
a valuable lesson that might save you a lot of trouble in the
future," she told me. Because I respected her wisdom I did as
she suggested and little by little I invested my life with as
much gratitude as possible.

As time went by my thankful
attitude took root and became an important part of my response
to everything that happened. Later on as I grew happier and my
life began to change for the better, I came across the writings
of another wise woman who spoke of the importance of praise to
the process of growth. "As it is with children," she wrote,
"when they are praised they try even harder, so it is with life
that what is praised flourishes."
She emphasized the
importance of praising whatever I wanted to enhance in my life.
I discovered that when I gave praise as well as thanks I invoked
the sunshine that helped everything that was best for me to
become stronger. I learned that as the light of my happiness
shone on my life it grew even happier. Now both praise and
thanks are my heartfelt offering in gratitude for the goodness
of my life.

May you harvest the joy
that comes from both praising and giving thanks.
